Why the Sand at DiG PDX Is So Special

When families walk into DiG, one of the first things they notice is the sand—it’s clean, bright, and feels amazing under little hands and feet. That’s because we don’t use just any sand.

Our play sand is Baha Play Sand, made by Calcean, and sustainably sourced from the Bahamas. Unlike “regular” sand, it’s 100% silica-free and quartz-free, which means it’s safe for indoor play and gentle on kids’ skin and lungs. The grains are smooth and round, so they don’t hard-pack, and they stay naturally cool and comfortable for endless digging, building, and creating.

Safety is always our priority. Our sand meets ASTM F963-17/23 Children’s Product Safety Standards, making it non-toxic and safe for both kids and pets. Parents can relax knowing that playtime is as safe as it is fun.

We also take sand care seriously—our team sanitizes toys daily, clears debris often, and enforces a no outside toys, food, or drinks policy to keep the sandbox environment clean.
